The Space of the Mother

How is the energy feeling for you right now? For me, it’s strong.  On Tuesday, a powerful thunderstorm swept through the Manchester area leaving behind lots of debris. The energy of the wind blew anything not rooted, the water’s power moved earth, the lightning transmuted the energy in the air, and the earth held on fiercely to what was hers. On my walk, I couldn’t help but feel how different the neighborhood looked and felt.

As I write, the wheel has turned to the full buck moon bringing even stronger energy in for review and release.

  • Have you been feeling the weight of the world?

  • Are you putting on a smile and sharing your fine but could really use a listening ear?

  • Struggling to keep up?

  • Are you feeling turned over, uprooted, or moving in an unknown direction?

The Wheel of the Year is also turning. In the Way of the Seabhean the wheel turns on August 1st to Lughnasadh and the Goddess Tailtiu. She is an earth goddess and foster mother to Lugh, who she raised and taught all of her knowledge of the land. He later created a festival and the Tailteann Games (which began a thousand years before the Greek games) in her honor.

She was born to King Eochaid Airem and Queen Morrigan and later married Bregon, the King of Ireland. In the stories, it is shared that Tailtiu so loved her people that she cleared the land for their prosperity and in doing so sacrificed her life.

Tailtiu is the full representation of the archetype of Mother. She sacrifices for the good of others. The mother is one of our first primary relationships, whether that be our birth mother or one who steps into the role of mother for us. In child development, John Bowlby brought forth attachment theory sharing that the critical early moments of a child’s life are what create the basis for safety and later on how one views oneself and their relationships.  If these precious moments were not given the care and attentiveness it has ripple effects within our life. We can turn to the archetype of the Mother to help us through.

She also reminds us that mothering does not always occur through blood but in who or what we choose to mother.  Those decisions shape our daily life and the care and attention provided is what grows.

This is my invitation  to you to  take a deeper dive over the next three months and arrive at the threshold of Samhain with a deeper connection to yourSelf, create the balm needed to help heal the wounds, and recognize the precious gifts of the love of the Mother.

If you would like to honor Tailtiu and the  Lughnasadh on your own consider:

  • Spending time in nature and sharing a prayer of thanks to Tailtiu & the Earth for her abundance

  • Visiting a place of water and sharing a blessing from your heart

  • Dancing or Singing

  • Savoring a meal. Use ingredients from your garden or purchased from a local farmer or farmer’s market. Create it with family or friends. Sit down, eat slowly, let the meal take you late into the night with laughter and love.

  • Bake a loaf of bread, give gratitude to the grains, and leave the first bite out for the faeries.

  • Review your personal ecological footprint. Shop locally or at thrift stores.

If you would like to be lovingly held in sacred space and community the unfolding of my heart is offering:

Sacred Sundays >> Shamanic Journeying to live drum or rattle. Journeying is a very easy and simple practice anyone can participate in. This hour will be a time to create a question, seek guidance through your own personal journey, journaling, and reflection. The more we enter into this sacred space the stronger the link we create to our own intuition and guidance on a daily basis. We will have a special emphasis on the Mother in the guided imagery over the coming months. Stay tuned for a complete schedule.

A collection of lovingly made teas, bath teas, and tinctures are being created to support your work over the next three months with a focus on the root, second, and heart chakra.

It is so important for us to remember to fill our own cups in order to continue to allow our high heart love to overflow.

I would love to hear how you are planning on filling your cup this season!

Take good care these next six weeks, with love,

Jess
